The moment I was introduced to Eva’s Bratopoulou work, a few years ago, I got immediately connected to the powerful emotion it emerged. As a humble servant of Art myself, I instantly recognized the influence this urgent need of artistic pronunciation had upon the delicate, fragile and yet, inspired young woman. This current selection of her work, has given me the chance to mix up my most sensitive thoughts with her embedded feelings. This work of hers depicts her absolute need to express herself through the simplest images. Images that reveal her rich, in colours and sights, background, the way she has been brought up and the way she conceives the most secret relationship she has, the one with the Sea. At the same time, Eva, conceals her deepest secrets in these pictures.

She paints a shell, which is exactly that! A shell! She paints a sea creature, a mermaid! It is the absolute real thing! It is pragmatic. But still, these paintings may illustrate much more of the human soul. Nothing is what it seems, but at the same time it may just be what you see. She had done the same with her selection of ships and boats paintings. A ship is a ship, but simultaneously is a carrier, a bearer of thoughts, passion, rage, routes and destinations.

Dive into her paintings. Liberate yourself from the chains of pragmatism and meet the allegoric side of her Art. Embrace your darkest fears, your insecurities and your most primitive intentions. She does this! Each and every time she uses her brushes to strike on canvas, it becomes obvious that it is far beyond paint. It is a statement!

She presents and covers, at the same time, emotionally troubled periods of her life, fears and disappointments by people who have crossed paths with her, “diving” with people who have been around but never really saw inside her, watery lands of paradise and hell. Therefore, surrealism and pragmatism exist in her work equally.

As far as I am concerned, Poetry and Literature has empowered me to think outside the box, to act on an impulse and to experience events through drama. Eva’s art of painting has enabled her to escape reform and alter herself and everything else within and out of rational limits so to enhance her instincts. All form of Arts offer the gift of dreaming as much as they offer the gift of getting messages across, straight forwardly. It depends on how we perceive the ideas and the acts around us and how we choose to react.

Eva Bratopoulou has a bright future because she sees through it. She also has a bright and promising artistic future because she is often seen through. Her enchanted dreams thrive whereas she chooses mythical, past elements to wrap present moments, without fearing the least to balance on the tight rope, which is simply called Life.
